Ace Combat 7: Is the PC version the all-time?

My knowledge of the Ace Combat series is pretty slim, having only always played a demo of Air Combat on PSOne and a lilliputian of 1 of the PS2 games, mayhap Shattered Skies. Long story brusk: information technology's been a while. I won't pretend that I understand what'southward going on in the story or who anyone is, but what I practice know is that the gameplay is well beyond anything else in the genre.

Okay, maybe that seems a bit hollow when at that place's not actually anything like information technology on the current generation of machines, but it's then good that I can't think of a single game that comes close to the quality of Ace Gainsay seven: Skies Unknown's dogfighting gameplay. It's not a simulator (amen to that, am I right?), but it does make you feel like Maverick or Iceman equally you lot dodge and weave virtually the skies, missiles tracing lines through the clouds and machine gun rounds tearing into the wings of your enemies.

Okay, and so the PC does have its fair share of combat flight simulators and the like, and although many of them offering a proper representation of flight jet fighters, they tend to be far as well complicated and frequently quite irksome. Apologies to you fans of simulators, simply I tend observe most of them dull. The Ace Combat games haven't appeared much on the big grey box, with only one of them previously making its fashion to PC, but Bandai Namco decided that 2019 was the right fourth dimension to release the latest numbered game in its flight serial.

Information technology fares pretty well too, despite missing a few of the more in-depth graphics options that well-nigh native PC games tend to offer. Instead, Bandai Namco chose to streamline the options, significant that it's quick and piece of cake to set things up. That said, the launch version did come with an odd consequence that tied the in-game resolution option to the desktop resolution I was using at the time. This meant that, although I was running my desktop at 1080p, the game wouldn't allow me choose that same resolution for Ace Gainsay 7. Thankfully, I have my PC connected to my 4K TV and and so reset my desktop resolution to 3840 10 2160, which and then triggered the game to unlock options all the way up to 4K.

There's no fashion my PC could run the game in 4K nevertheless (neither can the Xbox 1 Ten or PS4 Pro, as I'm writing this), but it did run extremely smoothly at 1080p with all the textures and effects turned upwards to high. As with the panel versions, it was buttery smooth at 60 frames-per-second, merely it looked even improve.

Flying through clouds sees water droplets rain the camera and obscures anything beyond, just breaking through the top and heading out above the cloud line is a sight to behold. Things are just equally spectacular when flight low to the basis also, weaving in and out of dusty canyons and over treetops equally you ignore the incessant dawdling of, "pull up," from your on-board flying figurer. Everything in Projection Aces' game is gorgeously detailed.

One of the all-time ways to enjoy all the little details is during the post-mission replays. Much like your Forzas and your Gran Turismos, Ace Gainsay seven actually allows you to watch your whole mission back after every sortie, and information technology's very much similar watching a mini-movie each and every time. You lot can alter camera angles and hit the deadening movement push for when you actually want to savour every 2nd of that intense dogfight, or that time you narrowly missed an outcrop while weaving through canyons. And yep, on PC it does look better if you accept all the settings turned upward.

Whether you like having a huge listing of graphics options or non, I don't think anyone could argue that this is anything other than an excellent port of an already damn fine game. Certain, it could do with one or two extra options exclusive to PC gaming, such equally ultra-broad support for multiple monitors, and perhaps the addition of those currently-PSVR-only missions for owners of Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headsets (other VR headsets are available, as they say on TV), but otherwise Ace Combat 7 on PC is the ultimate version of a fantastic game.
